Coordinator of Benedictine Scholars

The Priory School seeks a Benedictine Scholars Program (BSP) Coordinator who will join our team and serve approximately 70 Middle and Upper School students with a specific focus on the success of first generation college-bound students of color and students from historically under-resourced backgrounds. The Benedictine Scholars Coordinator serves to ensure that families, students, and caregivers have access to resources, programming, and education that is in alignment with the Priory mission and vision. The Coordinator reports to the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and is responsible for working closely with the Director of DEI in creating and shaping policies and structures that contribute to a school culture that fulfills its social contract with admitted families. The Coordinator also reports to the Dean of Academics and is responsible for coordinating academic support as needed

Duties and Responsibilities

BSP COORDINATOR (90%)

  • Provide daily case management and implement trauma-informed interventions;
  • Lead intersectional inclusion strategies to draw-in HURMS who are not on financial aid, but benefit from navigational support and resources;
  • Develop and lead quarterly navigational programming for Scholars addressing imposter syndrome, code-switching, identity support, mental health, and advocacy in a PWI;
  • Coordinate relevant logistics for access to school-sponsored events and activities, transportation, school supplies and personal materials;
  • Maintain frequent communication between students, teachers, administration, and parents;
  • Serve as a point-person for Scholars’ teachers, coaches, affinity space moderators, and advisors;
  • Partner closely with Financial Aid Office, and employ a strong skill-set in financial literacy;
  • Supervise relevant academic interventions and the implementation of learning support plans for students with identified learning accommodations, attentional difficulties, or mental health diagnoses impacting their education;
  • Attend weekly or bimonthly meetings with SOC, Wellness, College Counseling, Boarding Program, Learning Support and Student Life teams;
  • Spearhead admission cycle needs; open houses, connect with new BSP applicants, recruitment, and outreach to families to help with on-boarding;
  • Create and coordinate events for BSP; overnight, retreats, study sessions
  • Promote students/families in obtaining emotional safety in classrooms and/or with interactions with teachers;
  • Facilitate teacher-student-parent relationship repair and growth;
  • Ensure language access and cultural belonging for Scholar families;
  • Train and direct families how to navigate the Business Office, ie tuition payments, reimbursements, student accounts;
  • Maintain a program budget and practice fiscal responsibility;
  • Partner with Priory Parents of Color (PPoC) leadership for networking and community building initiatives and events;
  • Offer strategic feedback to Admissions, Wellness, College Counseling, and Campus Ministry

DEI: Benedictine Bridging and Belonging Team Member (10%)

  • Support multicultural education and celebrations;
  • Support Affinity Groups for Students and Faculty/Staff

Qualifications

  • Have a Bachelor’s degree
  • Recommended: a California Teaching Credential, Pupil Personnel Services Credential, or Master’s degree in a related field (ie, social work, educational therapy, etc.)
  • Draw on a trauma-informed approach and/or clinical social work orientation;
  • Demonstrated experience in developing culturally responsive curricula and programs; Possess the ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups and skills in facilitating dialogue;
  • Possess heritage fluency in Spanish speaking, writing and social skills;
  • Make significant contributions to the larger life of the school, like coaching, moderating an Affinity Group, or serving on a retreat team.
