Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach four sections of English in the Upper School, most likely with two preps (one in grades 9 or 10, and one in grades 11-12)
  • Designs curriculum using the backward planning model
  • Designs authentic assessments that challenge students to demonstrate ELA skills and knowledge
  • Implements feedback on student writing that is actionable and uses clear and consistent rubrics
  • Designs and delivers student-centered instruction that scaffolds students toward learning goals
  • Collaborates within a department to review and revise curriculum for vertical articulation
  • Participates in a professional culture committed to growth and reflective practice currently implementing Grading for Equity
  • Creates safe, inclusive spaces to nurture student diversity
  • Differentiates curriculum and instruction to serve students of diverse readiness levels, cultural backgrounds, learning styles, and interests
  • Discerns effective technological tools and resources to facilitate learning
  • Prioritizes, organizes, and teaches content knowledge in service of developing 21st century competencies
  • Partner with Student Support Team, administration, and families
  • Support important mission-based programming through advisory and campus ministry retreats
  • Preferred: Coaches a sport or moderates a club or affinity space

A helpful note: the exact teaching assignment is subject to change based on the qualifications and experience of our new teacher. Priory will gladly support you in preparing to teach our courses, including summer professional development and/or ongoing mentorship support from our faculty.

Qualifications

  • Have a Bachelor’s degree in Humanities Field
  • Ability to make significant contributions to the larger life of the school
  • Preferred: Master’s Degree and/or Teaching Credential
  • Preferred: Three years of teaching experience
